Liverpool Race Equality Taskforce

In unison with Liverpool’s aim to become a UNESCO Child Friendly City, the Race Equality Taskforce are eager to hear from children of all ages about their experiences, self-image and future aspirations.

To help gain the opinions and listen to the voices of the young children, the Taskforce offered free training to those working in early years settings, including private nurseries and children centres.

Delivered by Diane Garrison, an early years educator, teacher and primary school leader, the session explored the experiences of the children in early years settings through the lens of race, discussing the practioners’ views and creating a safe space to talk positively about different skin colour, ethnicity, heritage, celebrating what makes each child unique.

Those who took part in the training have been asked to report back to the Taskforce on the comments raised by the children, by the end of March to form part of the education theme’s evidence and recommendations.
